The situation before
Consultations were recorded on paper and written up later, usually in the evening. Billing was assembled at the end of the day from whatever the notes showed, which meant services delivered late in a busy clinic were the ones most likely to go unbilled.
The constraint
The clinic had no systems team and could not create one. Anything deployed had to be operable by the receptionist, the nurse and the doctor on the day it went live, on the equipment already in the building.
What was deployed
Genesys EMR: structured clinical notes, e-prescription checked against pharmacy stock, orders and results attached to the record, appointments, and consultation-level billing. Training was delivered by role rather than as a tour of the software.
What changed
Notes were completed inside the consultation rather than after it, and billing was raised at the point of care instead of reconstructed at closing. The clinic kept working through power interruptions and synchronised when the connection returned, which mattered more than any feature on the list.
